The Yellowjacket’s are comming

It is fair to say that no one has any great affection for that most annoying of hymenopteran insects, the good old common wasp. High summer, when they are at their most annoying, can be a frustrating affair when all things sweet attract their attention. I set aside some time to obtain some high-speed flash shots, for a new publication I’m currently working on. Unlike the frogs, which were a bit more obliging, these stinging assassins are a different ball game. I have always boasted that I have never felt the barb of any hymenopteran insect. That long-term run came to an end when I was stung twice in the neck while working on the fuchsia images. Working on flight shots of any insect is always challenging and time-consuming. You will take and delete a considerable number of images before you get anything that you are happy with. Below are some of my efforts.
