The Var France

The Var is a well-known region in the south of France noted for its warm Mediterranean climate, the numerous vineyards which abound the countryside and rich diversity of insect life. It’s a particularly rich area for butterflies with over 100 species recorded from the area. I have, over the years, travelled to many parts of France, but normally much later in June. Mid-May is the ideal time for visiting the Var. The high temperatures during the day meant that we did most of our insect photography in the early morning or late evening when temperatures were a bit cooler. Enclosed are a few examples from the region.

All images photographed with Nikon D810, and a range of lenses from 105 to 300mm.
